There’s deep meaning to this annual event that changes over time. In 1945 when the US bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we were rolling out the first-ever method for the human race to totally destroy itself and its planet home. As if that weren’t bad enough, under the guidance of the patriarchal systems that have dominated the world for the last 10,000 years, we’ve gone on to develop an entire range of systems working toward that same end. We have a choice of self-destructions … if we keep choosing leaders drooling to use them.
Nuclear destruction remains the quickest, and maybe you could say the most efficient, so far. We’re approaching the defining moment when we humans – all genders of us — determine just how much we want to cling to that sticky (like a dried-out-old-cocklebur embedded in your foot) patriarchal value system that puts everything we love at such risk.
The annual commemoration Omni has held all these decades honors that moment of truth in us, that deliberately turns away from the death-wish of the old system and chooses life.
