The Climate Moment ….

What’s happening around the world about climate? Selected moments from the collection of Reevaluation Counseling leader Russ Vernon-Jones and shared by local Omni member Dorothy Marcy

With great fanfare and angst on all sides the new COP – the Conference of Parties on climate change – gather this week. The clock is ticking on the enormity of the task and the potential for real action.

There is great concern that this crucial meeting will be marred because the fossil fuel industry has forced itself into a leadership role in the organization of the COPs. This years meeting was sited in the United Arab Emerites – a major oil producing country. And the key office of president of the COP was awarded to Sultan Al Jaber, CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. Al Jabar insists he is dedicated to finding climate solutions, but in the week before the conference opened memos leaked hinting that deals for oil permits were being signed pre-conference.

For coverage of the COP a good source is “Covering Climate Now”. They’re on the scene with experienced reporters. In fact, they are writing for news agencies who can’t attend the COP but want to provide good reporting. You’ll find good updates here.
