What does the president’s budget do to housing and homelessness funding?

What housing advocates all over the country feared from the president’s budget vision is now public. PLEASE TAKE ACTION TO STOP THE WORST OFFENSES

Keeps funding short-term assistance for workers / throws permanent supportive housing, elderly, disabled and families under the bus.

The President’s Budget would not only end assistance for hundreds of thousands of people, placing them at risk of losing their housing, but it would also decimate the resources currently available to states and local governments to address homelessness.

A claim is made that funds would be moved to a block grant somewhere. But then in another line it ends block grants. It’s a betrayal of people all over the country who need this help from their government.

To read for yourself an analysis on the budget from the National Alliance to End Homelessness, see this very informative one-pager:

This is Trump’s wish list. It’s not reality yet. Your very powerful help is needed, friends, to shift this catastrophic budget in human-friendly directions.

Just as we start coming to grips with the depth of the housing crisis we face, this will clearly exacerbate the crisis. Money starts to move in the House, so Congressman Womack will be ther first one who needs to hear from us. Senators Boozman and Cotten also need to start hearing about how we feel about this great betrayal. So here’s our Monday-morning to-do list…

Please tell all 3 of them “Arkansans need help with housing now more than ever. Defend funding for housing, and address the real needs at this time of housing crisis. Please help Arkansas get through this housing crisis by providing the Homeless Assistance Grant’s account $4.922 billion in the upcoming budget.” (that number is from the Alliance to End Homelessness assessment in the article below. Take a look there)
