Vegetarian Potlucks
Next one will be Sept 13 – 6:00 pm at OMNI Center
2nd Wednesdays – 6:00 pm at OMNI Center
Social and educational get-together. You don’t have to be vegetarian to enjoy this event. Just bring a dish to share and expect to try something new. Meet some people and maybe learn something along the way.
Food for PEACE – Gandhi, Albert Schweitzer, and Einstein refused to eat animals, precisely in order to avoid the violence associated with meat production. There is evidence that the resource depletion from the consumption of animal products contributes to human-on-human violence, and the greenhouse gasses that are causing climate change. It’s worth considering.
Food for JUSTICE – Instead of going to local communities of malnourished people, basic grains around the world are used in factory farms. The animal products produced are mostly consumed by the people of the developed “First” World rather than by the starving masses. We could help end world hunger by not eating factory-farmed animal products and redistributing our wealth and resources to the poorer people of the world.
Food for ECOLOGY – Factory farms use more than half of all the water used in the U.S. and their intensive production of animals for meat requires about 25 times as much land and at least 14 times as much water as the same amount of food from vegetable sources. They are responsible for greenhouse gas emissions as well as runoff pollution. Cutting down or eliminating factory-farmed meat consumption is one of the most effective ways to reduce one’s personal carbon footprint.
Each month, we share delicious food, discussion, fun, and friendship.
You needn’t be vegetarian to attend, just interested and willing to try new things.
