REPAIRED INSTRUCTIONS FORGOOD SOUND ON ZOOM BELOWGreeting Open Mic family, What a long strange trip its been. We miss you! Hope everyone is hanging in there. There is little doubt that music is good medicine for these crazy times. Summer is coming to an end and before we know it, it will be time for Omni’s Open Mic to start back up for the first Sunday in September.  That will be Sunday, December 6th at 7:00.And, of course, it will be virtual. Thanks to the generous help from Walter Schmidt, we can do it. He is going to be our administrator. I am copying a note from Walter below that includes the Zoom link that you will need to participate as well as some very important information on how to customize your zoom account to get better audio performance suitable for music. He has made it very simple a clear.    We will send out a reminder a few days before Sept 6th with the link. We are sure looking forward to seeing and hearing everyone. We will basically try to follow the same rules as we have for almost 20 years. Donna and I will host and M.C. and you will have the opportunity to share a song or words of Peace, Justice, and Ecology. Should be fun! Below is information regarding how to set up your audio to sound your best. (You do this once you’ve logged on to the meeting.) It looks intimidating but it’s really very doable.  
Zoom is designed to pick up voices and suppress background noise, but it can be used for music with the right settings. If you don’t make these setting changes, Zoom will interpret your instrument as background noise and try to suppress it, resulting in terrible sound that fades in and out as your voice and instrument battle for the mic. This is how to change the Zoom settings to make the sound better (do these steps once you’ve logged onto the meeting):
1. On the Zoom meeting page, click the arrow next to the microphone icon, then click “Audio Settings”. 2. On the first page, make sure “Automatically adjust microphone volume” is off/unchecked. 3. Click on “Advanced “. 4. On the second page, make sure “Enable in-meeting option for original sound” is checked. 5. Select “Disable” for “Suppress Persistent Background Noise” 6. Select “Disable” for “Suppress Intermittent Background Noise.” 7. Close “Audio Settings” window.
Back at the meeting screen, in the top left corner (on computer), you will see a box that says “Turn original sound on” or “Turn original sound off”. Original sound is a toggle switch, either on or off. If it is on, the box will say “Turn original sound off”. Conversely, if it is off the box will say “Turn original sound on”. You want original sound on, so your box should say “Turn original sound off”.
