June 25 Citizens First Congress (CFC) in Little Rock will be holding the bi-annual convention where the “people’s agenda” is adopted for the legislative session for next year. The convention will be in person this time, barring more spikes. And they’re exciting events. Lots of people attend from all over Arkansas with issues that are important to them. And CFC delegates have the task of narrowing the wide field of needs to hone in to issues that most of the body can support. CFC then develops those agenda issues into strong legislation that they lobby for during the session.
It’s the most democratically run body of people you’re likely to see. CFC is the only progressive lobbying group in Arkansas and it’s pretty unique in the whole country. They’re fighters for all kind of issues that you probably support, and are always open to emerging interests and needs about people, planet and Arkansas communities.
Omni is a member organization and we have 4 slots for delegates. Two will be used by Shelley Buonaiuto and Mike Karcis who are taking a proposal to the convention for Omni that supports workers right to get their full pay and get a pay stub. Employers don’t have to do that in Arkansas and many take advantage of it, a practice known as wage theft
You don’t need to be an expert at this to participate fully. And you get a first-hand view of Arkansas politics at work. It’s sometimes frustrating, but also enlightening and empowering. And participation is free. CFC pays expenses for all delegates.
We need to send in registration for our 4 delegates soon. Who out there might be interested in going along? Please respond ASAP to omni@omnicenter.org and ask questions if you have some. It’ll be worth your time to check this out.
