STUDENTS FOR A GREEN NEW DEAL
Student-Led Climate Action Is Flourishing In Florida

By Nick Engelfried, Waging Nonviolence.  PopularResistance .org (3-24-24).   The University of Florida made history last month when its student senate became the first at a public university to pass a climate resolution in support of Green New Deal policies. The “Green New Deal for UF” is a statement of support for bold, progressive climate action put forward by students at a time when the far-right holds a near monopoly on power in the state. “This is big news for the climate movement at universities — not just in Florida, but everywhere,” said Cameron Driggers, a UF freshman. “It’s a first of its kind resolution that pushes back against the narrative that some… – more –

“Young people push for a Green New Deal for schools across the U.S.”  YCC TEAM FEBRUARY 23, 2024.   AUDIO

As a result of student activism, a school district in Colorado will include climate change in the curriculum and implement clean energy initiatives. Many young people want their schools to help prepare them to face the climate crisis.  So students in the Sunrise Movement have been lobbying their local school boards across the country to pass a Green New Deal for Schools. In the Boulder Valley School District in Colorado, they recently celebrated a win.  Student activist Tilly Testa says the new resolution requires the district to implement clean energy initiatives, include climate change in the curriculum, and create disaster plans. . . .

6-7-24 MOVE TO AMEND opposes corporate seizure of inalienable constitutional rights and corporate personhood and seeks to build a vibrant democracy that values people over profits. Controlling money creation has made giant (banking) corporations so strong they have succeeded in corrupting the courts into highjacking our constitutional rights.  Corporations now spend all they want on politicians and media, shielded from public accountability.   But it doesn’t have to be this way! That is why we are working to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations (including banks), are persons entitled to constitutional rights as proposed in the We the People Amendment (HJR 54).   Since its inception, we have grown into a coalition of hundreds of organizations and hundreds of thousands of individuals committed to social, environmental and economic justice and we have achieved that by thinking outside the realm of what we’ve been taught to believe is possible and exploring big questions as well as unsettling truths.
