Monday July 10 – 5:30 pm – City Hall Room 219
In order to ao allow a small group of homeless people to stay on their personal property so they won’t be constantly driven from pillar to post, Richard and Gladys Tiffany are applying for a conditional use permit now required by the city for civic service like this. We can tell you that they’re a pain. The Department of Planning and Zoning has recommended that the conditional use permit be denied, even though there is nowhere else for the people to go. They really don’t like homeless people cluttering up their city in that office.
At the hearing for this CUP there will be people that find homeless people alarming who will very likely make testimony that is rude and sometimes less than truthful. They won’t mention that some of them have an ulterior motive for the anger they’re expressing. Some are part of a foundation that wants to buy this particular piece of land for the National Cemetery next door. They refuse to acknowledge that, but a very real map on their website reveals it.
If you’re interested in seeing another side of Fayetteville we invite you to come observe what’s required to help your neighbors right now. If you wish to speak in support of community spirit you could do that, or hold silent witness as moral support. Either kind of company would be very welcome.
