What Can You Do to Ameliorate or Stop the Israeli (US) War against the Palestinians?
In addition to direct connection to Israelis or Palestinians, the best action is to support established organizations.  Takes just minutes to google for information and addresses.  (Randomly collected before the war openly resumed; if you can correct, add, or subtract any items, contact me.  I am looking for a published report.)

National Mobilization: Surround the White House for Gaza Saturday, June 8, 2024    12:00 p.m.    The White House
Endorse the mobilization here    Organize a transportation center

Last night, the Israeli military carried out a horrific massacre in Rafah, bombing a refugee camp in a so-called “safe zone” and igniting a massive blaze that claimed at least 45 lives. Unless we act now this genocidal assault will only expand. To demand an end to Israel’s killing spree and raise our voice for a free Palestine, tens of thousands will surround the White House dressed in red, building a human red line around the White house on Saturday, June 8.

This emergency action was called by the convening organizations of the People’s Conference for Palestine in Detroit, attended by 3,600 people and endorsed by 450 organizations.

June 8 marks 8 months of U.S.-Israeli genocide of the Palestinian people, and marks the 54th anniversary of the occupation of Gaza. A month ago, Biden said that the invasion of Rafah was a red line. But now, the invasion of Rafah has continued for weeks, has expanded to the entire Gaza Strip, Biden’s red line is nowhere to be seen. Instead of following through and stopping military aid to Israel, Biden has authorized billions more in weapons shipments to be used to kill and massacre Palestinians.

Biden hasn’t drawn the line, but we can. On June 8, we will come together from across the country and surround the White House. Wearing red, and raising our demands high, we will show the world that we are the red line. We demand an immediate ceasefire, an immediate end to the siege on Gaza, the freedom of all Palestinian prisoners, and an end to the occupation of Palestine.

Stop the Genocide! We are the red line! Free Palestine!

RED CROSS REPORT ON GAZA
‘Beyond catastrophic’ – Red Cross says situation in Gaza is getting worse.” According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 25,105 Palestinians have been killed, and 62,681 wounded in Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza starting on October 7.  Editor.  mronline.org (1-24-24).  Originally published:Palestine Chronicle  on January 21, 2024 by Palestine Chronicle Staff (more by Palestine Chronicle)  |  (Posted Jan 23, 2024).  Human Rights, Inequality, Strategy, WarGaza, Israel, Middle East, PalestineNewswireInternational Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), Red Cross, Tommaso Della Longa, World Food Program (WFP)

Tommaso Della Longa, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ spokesperson (IFRC), said the situation in Gaza is getting “worse and worse.”  “What we are seeing is what we predicted, and not because we are magicians, but because we know by experience,” Della Longa said in an interview with Anadolu News Agency, adding that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are in shelters without access to running water, proper food and adequate sanitation.  According to the United Nations, 85% of the population of Gaza is already internally displaced, amid acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine, while 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure is damaged or destroyed.

Rebekah Jones.   “Fact Checking Claims About UN’s Gaza Death Toll.” Fact Check on UN data.  MAY 15, 2024.

Social media was ablaze earlier this week about an alleged halving of the United Nation’s total death toll of women and children killed in Gaza.  “UN cuts women, child deaths in Gaza by half overnight,” went the story.  Like a lot of stories about the situation overseas, this one was completely false.

The UN has been publishing data about fatalities in Gaza since the start of the assault, using comparative analysis across varying (and often adversarial) resources.  These numbers are backed up by both Israeli and American intelligence, as well as the international agencies deployed to the region (like the 20 American doctors trapped in Gaza who are slowly dying due to Israel’s blockade of aid).  Last week, the UN updated how it categorizes this data online, separating the number of dead who have been identified from the dead who have not (and may never be because of their condition).

Israeli propagandists, including Oren Marmorstein (spokesperson for Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs) seized the opportunity to exploit confusion of the change and began circulating lies that the actual death toll of children was half of what was being said the entire time.
Fox News ran with it (of course). By the time the UN began explaining the change — simply distinguishing those who have been identified vs bodies with no identity yet — the lie had already consumed the social media airwaves.   Two people I believe to be incredibly smart even fell for it — sharing it widely, adding commentary on how they believed the numbers to be lies “all along.”

I’ve been counting the dead in disasters a very long time. Fatalities in war can be examined in much of the same way as fatalities from a hurricane.  If the counts are done properly, they will almost always go up over time, although there have been exceptions.  That there are more than 7,000 bodies of just children that have gone unidentified is in itself a terrifying reality of how brutal Israel’s attacks on Gaza have been.  Typically, if a body hasn’t been identified, it’s because either the body was damaged beyond recognition or no one is still alive who would be able to identify the corpse.  In this conflict, there may be the additional complication of no facilities left to even process bodies, as Israel has bombed most of the hospitals and other critical infrastructure that serve the more than 2 million people living there.

The UN’s explanation seems to focus on the first two points: more than 7,000 children have either been so disfigured, dismembered or left in small pieces that even family cannot identify them, or there is no family left to do so.  Neither are things those supporting the Israeli cause should be proud of.  Additionally, more than 10,000 people are believed to be dead beneath the rubble of what Israel has destroyed.  And then there are the horror stories of those who were never reported missing being found in acts of such depravity that hope of finding everyone seems slim.

So far, more than 500 people — mostly medical staff— have been found in mass graves at three different hospitals in Gaza. The bodies found in a total of seven mass graves showed signs of mutilation and torture, and were buried with their hands and feet tied together — shot execution style by the IDF and thrown in a hole.

Identifications made thus far have been dependent on ID badges and relatives identifying clothing.

Those conditions make it doubtful that all of the Israel’s victims will ever be identifiable — or even found.  Upgrade to paid    Paypal: https://paypal.me/covidaction

“STOP THE BOMBING OF RAFAH.”
Just Foreign Policy.  2-23-24.    James, earlier this week, the United States once again vetoed a Gaza ceasefire resolution – enabling the continued bombing of Rafah, where more than half of the Strip’s 2.3 million people are sheltering.  [See US Vetoes of Climate Change resolutions and treaties, e.g. Kyoto, Colin Beavan, No Impact Man.]   Meanwhile, as bombing intensifies and rumblings about a ground attack grow, Department of Defense officials confirmed that the IDF has not provided the US military with any plans for how they’re going to protect civilian lives in the event of an attack.  This means that if Rafah is subject to a ground invasion like other cities throughout Gaza, we can likely expect a similar level of civilian death and destruction. Make no mistake: This is a brazen violation of human rights and international law and should shock the conscience of all decent people.   Civilians throughout Rafah are already in protest, saying that the world has become deaf, or silent, or blind to what’s happening in Gaza. And while people like us have not stopped advocating for a ceasefire, it is clear that these critiques apply to our political leaders.  The United States has taken much more powerful action to curb IDF injustice in the past; refusing to cut back on our military support or use it as leverage is a deliberate choice that enables thousands, if not more, of civilians to die over the course of these next few operations and bombing.

There are lives on the line. Will you continue speaking out for international human rights and justice by demanding the Biden administration do everything in its power to stop the bombing of Rafah today?   In solidarity,  Just Foreign Policy

NH Voters To Pressure Biden With ‘Cease-Fire’ Write-In On Ballots

By Jessica Corbett, Common Dreams. With less than a week until New Hampshire’s presidential primary on January 23, critics of U.S. support for Israel’s war on Gaza are urging voters in the state to put “cease-fire” on the write-in portion of their ballots rather than Democratic President Joe Biden. Because of a battle between the Democratic National Committee and New Hampshire leaders, Biden opted to keep his name off the ballot, which will include longshot challengers U.S. Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) and Marianne Williamson. However, some of the president’s supporters have been encouraging voters to write in his name next Tuesday. -more-

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 106: Israel Bombs Gaza, Lebanon And Syria

By Palestine Bureau, Mondoweiss. Israeli forces killed at least 165 Palestinians and wounded 280 more in the past 24 hours in Gaza, the Ministry of Health in the small bombarded enclave reported on Saturday, bringing the official death toll since October 7 in Gaza to 24,927, with at least 62,388 more wounded. This number does not include people who are missing and believed to be trapped under rubble, unidentified bodies, people who were buried by their families without going to a hospital, nor people who have died due to illness, cold, or hunger as a result of Israel’s merciless blockade of Gaza.  -more-

Joe Sacco, Author Of ‘Footnotes In Gaza,’ On Journalism And Palestine

By Chris Hedges, The Real News Network. The cartoonist Joe Sacco invented nonfiction and graphic journalism, marrying rigorous and detailed reporting with illustrations that leap off the page and give his stories a texture, depth, and visceral power that is often hard to match for writers. He pioneered this work with nine issues on the Palestinians living under Israeli occupation, from 1993-1995. The nine comics, later published as the book, Palestine, educated a generation about the tragedy that has gripped the Palestinians since the creation of the state of Israel in 1948. -more-

What is happening in the occupied Palestinian territories is a disgrace to humanity and must stop immediately. The protection of the civilian population is an absolute priority. By Tanupriya Singh, People’s Dispatch. Chile and Mexico have called upon the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate the crimes being committed amid Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza. In the past 105 days, Israel has killed over 24,600 Palestinians in Gaza, with more than 7,000 people missing and presumed dead under the rubble. In a statement released on January 18, Mexico and Chile stated that their referral to the ICC was “due to growing concern about the latest escalation of violence, particularly against civilian targets, and the alleged continued commission of crimes under the jurisdiction of the Court, specifically since the attack… -more-

Lenin wrote in “Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism”:  I trust that this pamphlet will help the reader to understand the economic essence of imperialism, for unless this is studied, it will be impossible to understand and appraise modern war and modern politics.  In the new book “Lenin and War in the 21st Century,” author Gary Wilson writes about industrial capital merging with banking capital, creating “finance capital,” a financial oligarchy. This combination allows financial institutions to exert significant control over the economy as well as the government.

The banking institutions of monopoly capitalism own the arms manufacturers that are supplying weapons of genocide in Gaza warfare. The competitive drive to expand profitable investments and to absorb an ever-greater proportion of the U.S. government’s budget is fueling the broader war fronts all across the globe. It is threatening to develop into a Third World War.

The national demonstration, which coincided with a day of action in other cities around the world, saw around 1,700 police officers put into action. But you would be largely disappointed. Nolen does explain that Palestinians in Gaza are going hungry, and one of her reports goes into… -more-

Palestinians Collectively Return To North Gaza” By Yousef Fares, Orinoco Tribune. In the old streets of Gaza, the road connecting the northern governorate of Gaza with the eastern neighborhoods of the city, such as Al-Tuffah, Haraat al-Dara, and Shuja’iyya, has become the only route for the residents of the northern Gaza Strip to reach the western areas of the city. This is due to the constant attacks on the direct routes that traverse the western neighborhoods. Over the past few days, this road has been traveled by hundreds of families who have decided to return to the neighborhoods recently vacated by the occupation forces.  -more-

Every Jew A .22 And MZ-4: The Path From Kahane To Ben-GvirBy Natasha Roth-Rowland, In These Times. Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s national security minister and head of the extremist Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Power) party, traveled up and down Israel distributing assault rifles (including MZ-4s) to Jewish-Israeli citizens in the weeks following Hamas’ attack on southern Israel on October 7. It was a significant escalation in Ben-Gvir’s ongoing efforts to arm Jewish Israelis and, using these events as photo ops, the far-right lawmaker was greeted with great fanfare by the recipients — new civilian guards, intended to become “rapid response” groups. -more-

PEACEMAKING
“What Would Martin Luther King Jr. Have To Say on Gaza?”

He insisted in 1967 that it was morally imperative for the US to stop its role in the Vietnam war. He would be calling for Biden to demand a ceasefire now.   https://www.truthdig.com/articles/what-would-martin-luther-king-jr-have-to-say-on-gaza/   (Forwarded by Sonny San Juan)

MICHAEL MCBRIDE.    RESPONSIBLE STATECRAFT.  JAN 15, 2024 .

As we celebrate the life and legacy of Reverend Martin Luther King today, we cross the 100-day mark in the devastating war in Gaza. If Dr. King were alive today, I feel certain he would have joined marches this weekend and used his voice and his pulpit to press the United States government to do everything in its power to persuade or pressure the government of Israel — which it has backed politically, diplomatically, militarily, and financially — to agree to a ceasefire in its war in Gaza.

That war, waged in response to the deadly cross-border attack by Hamas and other militants on October 7 into Southern Israel has resulted in at least 23,000 Palestinian deaths and massive destruction, to date, as well as a punishing blockade preventing adequate food, water, medicine and other critical care to the two million people penned into the Gaza strip. As they seek shelter from artillery or bombs, more than 90 percent of the population is now at near term risk of starvation.

All of this horror is transpiring before our eyes — in much the way that the nightly network TV news brought reports from Vietnam in the 1960s. On April 4, 1967, Rev. King spoke out against the deadly impacts of America’s role in the Vietnamese civil war at the Riverside Church in his historic “Beyond Vietnam” speech, declaring “my conscience leaves me no other choice.” Rev. King insisted that it was morally imperative for the United States to take radical steps to halt the war — or at least its role in the war.

Inspired by his example, in early November more than 1,000 Black Christian leaders joined me to call upon President Biden to support a ceasefire in Gaza. Several of us met with White House outreach staff before publishing our call in a full page ad in the New York Times, urging them to use America’s leverage to actively work for a bilateral ceasefire and the release of all hostages held by Hamas and its allies, an increase of humanitarian aid and a peaceful resolution of the crisis. Among the signers were Rev. King’s daughter, Bernice A. King, Bishop Leah Daughtry and Rev. Dr. Freddy Haynes. . . . https://www.truthdig.com/articles/what-would-martin-luther-king-jr-have-to-say-on-gaza/

PROJECTING THE FUTURE: WHAT ISRAEL MUST DO

To Avoid Catastrophe, Israel Must Integrate Gazans Into Israel and Grant Them Equal Rights.”  Covert Action Magazine.  Joshua Shoenfeld.  (January 27, 2024).

To date, there has been negligible attention given to what will be the ultimate fate of the approximately 2.3 million people living in the Gaza Strip enclave in Palestine. In response to the October 7 Hamas attacks, Israel, with the full backing of the United States, has undertaken a military campaign to destroy all infrastructure in Gaza, including homes, buildings, mosques, churches, hospitals and roads. Israel has decided to cut off all food, water, medical supplies and electricity for Gaza except for a minimal allowance of international aid through the border crossing from Egypt into Gaza…

So you’re a professor? Here’s what you can do to oppose genocide.”   Editor.  mronline.org (1-19-24).      Feeling helpless does not mean being useless. It is possible to support Palestinians from afar.

College instructors, particularly those in Europe and North America, are generally limited when it comes to meaningful intervention in imperialist horrors afflicting the Global South. Nevertheless, it is usually their governments either orchestrating or abetting the horror. They ought to do something, then, even if it seems pyrrhic or inadequate.

People around the world are now witnessing a particularly gruesome event as the Zionist entity, armed by its U.S. sponsor and enjoying the support of capitalist institutions across the globe, commits one atrocity after the other in the Gaza Strip (along with the West Bank and at times further afield). The atrocities, anyone with a modicum of integrity agrees, add up to genocide. The depth of grief and suffering Palestinians now experience is indescribable, immeasurable.    MORE  click on title
