“Men in the Sun” by renowned Palestinian author Ghassan Kanafani

We’re excited to invite you to the next meeting of Reading Palestine, a book club devoted to fiction written by Palestinian authors. This month, we will be reading and discussing Men in the Sun by Ghassan Kanafani.

Location: Pearl’s Books – 28 E Center St., Fayetteville

Date: Thursday, March 13

Time: 6:30 PM

Originally published in 1962, this powerful novella tells the story of four Palestinian men striving to reach Kuwait in search of a better future. Kanafani’s writing, influenced by William Faulkner’s modernist style, offers a layered and thought-provoking narrative that rewards careful reading. At only 47 pages, it is a short but significant work.

Ghassan Kanafani was one of Palestine’s most renowned writers and revolutionaries. He was assassinated in Beirut in 1972 by Israeli intelligence, a testament to the power of his voice and activism.

The book is available online from various sources. Unfortunately, Pearl’s Books is unable to order it due to international publishing restrictions. Please email tsweden@uark.edu if you would like a PDF copy of the book.

For those interested, there is also an excellent film adaptation of the book, The Dupes, which you can watch here (with subtitles):  Watch The Dupes

We hope you’ll join us for this important discussion! Feel free to bring friends and share this invitation with others who may be interested.

In solidarity,
