Resistance is only half the equation

When movements are at their most powerful, they not only withdraw cooperation from unjust systems, but build the capacity to live without them. Barbara Peterson June 1, 2026 This moment demands more than opposition. What is needed is not just resistance against corrupt centralized systems, but to create new, local systems that restructure power so it is dispersed throughout society. Because the problem is not only that those in power abuse it. The problem is that power is concentrated in the first place. https://wagingnonviolence.org/2026/06/resistance-is-only-half-the-equation

Every Spring Tastes of its Own Ground

Every Spring Tastes of its Own Ground Scott Nakagawa – the spring and river metaphor. It could be a tale of Arkansas This is something too beautiful not to share. Scott Nakagawa has a great Substack for posting very wise assessments of dealing with the authoritarian dilemma we face. This post in particular is critical for peacemakers and change advocates everywhere because he’s sharing a metaphor that illustrates how we get past an individualist trap many Americans are caught up in — distrust of working together. That fear of people we may disagree with. Thank you #ScottNakagawa for this image […]

Pilgrims Progress for century 21

I’m not sure how many people still remember the ancient story of Pilgrims Progress. It’s so old it was one of the early books printed on a Gutenberg printing press in the 1670s. It’s one of history’s best-selling books and has never been out of print. It’s been published in more than 200 languages and at least 1,500 editions. It’s an allegory of life that has resonance for our times, even though the language is very different from our modern tongue. The entire human race is working its way through a pilgrimage from who and what we think we are, […]

(Prof. James Hansen had warned Congress in 1988 of the dangers that could arise from rising temperatures.   The UN created the IPCC in 1999.)  From its beginning we enjoyed the advice of three climatologists:   Dr. Robert McAfee (Ph.D in Climatology from U. of Melbourne), Prof. Malcolm Cleveland (Geology Dept, UAF), and Prof. Art Hobson (Physics Dept., UAF); and the participation of more than a dozen concerned citizens (including Lolly […]
